Alice Ann Mcmannis

April 29, 1944 — January 10, 2024

"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Born in California to Mildred and Virgil Young, Alice was named after her blind aunt who was a painter (before she went blind). She was the oldest of 4 and man did she hate that she was the practice kid she always talked about that! She loved to camp and bake and be with her family as a child. She graduated from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, California, and then graduated from Mendocino College for Childhood Development. Alice married Ben Biter and made many beautiful memories with him until his passing in 2000. Feeling lost without her "Ben", she went on to find love with Michael David McMannis in 2003 while living in Trent, Texas. What carried their shared love the most was their daughter Crystal Lynn McMannis and her three older boys. They would wake Crystal Sunday mornings with the smell of slightly burned bacon with a touch of smoke detector ringing. Alice was a CNA at the Merkel nursing home for many years. She went on to work with her husband Mike doing tree cutting and freelance work around the community. They enjoyed getting to visit with people in the community that they cared for, and banter with each other in the funniest ways. One thing about Alice was she LOVED her furry little friends and some days they were her favorite ear to confide in no matter how many slippers she may have had chewed up or how many messes she'd have to clean up. Alice loved to read all kinds of books, from Western novels, to mystery novels, life journey books, and the Bible. Alice was a homemaker of many trades and could sew, do crafts, and love love loved crotchet, though her specialty was acts of kindness even though she had the upmost of grit and would tell it like it is. "She always wanted to take care of us even if we had the smallest cough once I had a migraine so bad after a softball game she sat on the couch with my head in her lap with a warm rag all night, she took care all 4 of us kids when dad was in the hospital paralyzed even while working two jobs. My favorite thing was how she was notorious for “and all that” a million times in a conversation, she really was just nurturing and had the biggest heart she would quite literally take anyone in and take care of them adults, kids, DOGS! And do anything for anyone, she was hard working she worked with dad whether it was cutting wood, or stacking rocks. Even when she was just a home maker there wasn’t anything she wasn’t good at except knitting she never could get that down but crochet she was a master at she tried to teach me and and I just never could keep up with her." Alice was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven by: Her beloved mother Mildred Young, her father Virgil Young, her late husband Ben Biter, and her husband Michael McMannis. Alice is survived by: Her sister Carolyn Ainsworth and husband Rusty, Her brother Ben young and wife Rendy, Her brother Stan Young and wife Diane, Her son David Humes, Her son John Humes, and her beloved daughter Crystal Lynn McMannis.
