Christine Margaret Saferight

January 12, 1966 — January 24, 2024

Christine Saferight, 58, of Anson, TX, went home to Heaven on January 24th, 2024. She passed away under the wonderful care of the staff of Hendrick Hospice Center in Abilene, TX. Christine was born on January 12, 1966 in Dallas, TX to her birth mother, Evelyn Ann Dougal. At age six weeks, she was adopted by her parents, Margaret and Robert Gratkowski, of Tulsa, OK. Christine and her younger brother, Woody, lost their father while they were very young. A graduate of Nathan Hale High School, class of 1983, "Chrissy" was a very proud Ranger and enjoyed staying in touch and catching up with her classmates. Christine met her first husband while still in high school and they had three children together. As an Army wife, Christine spent time in San Francisco and Hawaii. Following their divorce in 1992, she returned to Oklahoma and endured a painful separation from the church. She married her husband of 27 years, Robert Saferight, in 1996. Their love for each other began with an evening of Christine and Robert swooning together over photos of her three young children. They were married within a year and welcomed two beautiful daughters together. With Robert's three wonderful children, there are eight children between them. Christine and Robert loved each other in the kind of way that others aspire to. Several couples met and married because of them, and to see them together was nothing less than to witness destiny in action. Christine was her family's biggest fan, and she loved to cheer them on at their many events. Being a full-time mom was a dream come true for her, she relished having a family of her own after growing up without knowing her biological family. For this reason, she threw open the doors of her home and heart at every opportunity. She welcomed her children's friends over frequently and never gave up the chance to wrap her arms fiercely around someone. If you were loved by someone that Christine loved, you were also instantly loved by her. Christine reunited with her faith again at Life.Church Midtown in Tulsa, OK. It was there that she rededicated her life to Christ in 2019 and attended church until the pandemic occurred. She spent her final years in Robert’s hometown of Anson, TX with her family. Christine leaves behind her loving husband, Robert, their daughters Emily and Lillian of Anson, TX; Christine's children, Major Joseph and Candice Bedingfield of Bunnlevel, North Carolina; Kate and Thomas Collins of Perry, OK; Christian Bedingfield and Valerie Cook of Tulsa, OK; Robert's children, Jessica and Steven Nielson of Hillsboro, Oregon; Tyler Jamison and Cathlene Williams of Bixby, OK; Katelynn Saferight of Noblesville, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; Aubrey, Noah, Millie, Isaiah, Jackie, London, Sydney, Oliver, Theodore, Sebastian, Sahari, Bryan, and Brayden; her brother, Woody Gratkowski; and her stepfather, David Martin. Christine is preceded in death by her Grandparents, Leon and Velma Ward, Joseph and Mary Gratkowski; her mother and father; her birth mother; her in-laws, Clarence and Sylvia Saferight; and her granddaughter, Wrenly Kay Bedingfield.
