Jean Frances Jones, formerly known as Jean Cozine, was born on August 7, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on March 5, 2025, in Merkel, Texas. Throughout her life, Jean navigated significant transitions including marriage and mothering, marking her story with her distinctive personality traits.

Jean's early years were spent amidst the bustle of Cincinnati before she moved to Texas. She helped her mother raise her 4 younger brothers. In her role as an Army wife, she supported her husband, Billy D. Jones, after they married on November 7, 1960, in Harris County. Following his retirement from service, path diverged, leading to their divorce, which prompted her to settle in Copperas Cove, Texas, where she continued to work as a nurse.

Jean moved to Merkel, Texas in 2007 to live with her daughter, Debbie. She helped her daughter, Lisa, and daughter-in-law, Tressie, return to school, providing invaluable support as they pursued their careers. Her grandchildren—Justin, Kailee, David, and Tyler—who hold memories of spending time with her, particularly watching The Game Show Network. 

Jean had diverse interests reflecting her spirited personality. She enjoyed weekend trail rides, relished her time outdoors, and was known to enjoy drinking beer in the company of her beloved pets, especially her horses and dogs. These hobbies painted a picture of a woman engaged deeply with the passions she held dear.

Jean is survived by her children: Debra Jones, Lisa Nelson and her husband Mike, and Billy Jones and his wife Tressie all of Merkel, TX. She is also survived by her brothers, Larry Cozine of Kingwood, TX and Frank Cozine of New Caney, TX, as well as her grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Cozine; her mother, Marcella Meyers; and her brothers, Harry and Lloyd Cozine. Each of these individuals played a role in shaping her journey of life.

Her family would like to thank the Merkel Nursing Home's wonderful staff that provided her care for many years and Alpha Omega Hospice for their kindness and care they showed her.

As we remember Jean, we reflect on a life that was complex and nuanced, marked by a unique legacy she leaves behind. She will be missed.
