Jose Cortes Salazar, 90, of Abilene, passed away on September 1, 2024, in Abilene.
Jose was born on August 2, 1934, in Mexico to Carlos Cortes and Magdalena Salazar. He married Isabel Cortes Mata, with whom he shared five children. Throughout his career, he served as a cotton gin foreman for an extended period. In his leisure time, he found solace in fishing, gardening, and he enjoyed honking at pretty ladies. Furthermore, he cherished moments with his children and grandchildren, enjoying the time spent with them.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and son-in-law, Ebony Kellum.
Jose is survived by children, Maria Elena Cortes, Sanjuana Dudzic, Olga Gaona, Francisca Gomez, Jose Cortes and Nancy Kellum; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and 2 sister, Aurelia Zuniga Salazar and Maria Luisa Rubio Salazar.
A celebration of life services will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 1:30pm at the First Baptist Church (Chapel),1333 N 3rd St, Abilene, with Pastor John Moore of City Light Ministries, officiating. Services are under the direction of West Central Texas Cremation.
