Mario Jonathan Cusick, age 22, of Abilene, TX, passed away on March 20, 2024, in Lewisville, TX. A memorial service will be held at Beltway Park Church, North Campus, 2850 TX-351, Abilene, TX, on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 3:00 pm.
Mario was born in San Angelo, TX, to Kimberly Roberts on September 23, 2001. Mario was 4 years old when he came to live with Harry and Debra Cusick and was adopted on July 23, 2008. He graduated from Cooper High School, Abilene, TX in 2020. He married Jacelyn Herpeche on September 12, 2021, in Abilene, TX. Even though the marriage didn’t work out they were thankful for their son, Kai, that was born during their time together and remained close. Mario was employed as an apprentice electrician at C&G Electric since September 2023. He also was a correctional officer at French Robertson Unit prior to that.
Mario confessed Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at a young age. He attended the Awana Club at Beltway Park Church and memorized many scriptures. He attended church camp year after year and loved the Lord. He attended Jackson Elementary School, Madison Middle School and Cooper High School. He played football and he played the tuba. He enjoyed wood working and brought many projects home from school. Mario shared the same birthday with his uncle David Hayes, 40 years apart, and often celebrated that day together. Mario was a husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, grandson and boyfriend. Mario was in a relationship with Jaelyn Galvan since October 22, 2022. They lived in Lewisville, TX, for the last year of Mario’s life raising their daughter Xania and Jaelyn’s son Beni. Mario wanted to be a police officer since he was young and pursue a career in law enforcement. He also wanted to join the Marines like his grandfather, Alvin Dale Roberts. He was a fan of the Denver Broncos football team. He loved watching Anime, Star Wars and Fast and Furious. He was fascinated with the Japanese culture, often ate with chopsticks and spoke of visiting Japan someday. He loved to cook and try new recipes and wanted to become a chef later on in life. His favorite animal was wolves. He had just started to explore drawing and painting to tap into his creative side.
Mario was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Harry W. Cusick, Sr. and wife Lucile; uncle, Richard Lee Cusick; maternal grandparents, Joseph Urbanski and Beverly Anderson; biological father, Mario Carreon Herrera Sr.; brother-in-law David Banks; maternal grandfather Alvin Dale Roberts and aunt Donna Hayes.
Mario is survived by the mother of his son, Jacelyn Cusick; mother of his daughter, Jaelyn Galvan; son Kai Albert Daniel Cusick age 22 months; daughter, Xania Roux Cusick, 8 months; Benjamin Ray Bynum age 2, like a son; also birth mother, Kimberly Roberts, OK; adopted parents, Harry and Debra Cusick, TX; grandmother Sharon Roberts, OK; grandparents, Lester and Latricia Sizemore, TX, and surrogate grandparents, Dennis and Barbara Kinyon, TX.
Mario had 18 siblings; Karen Banks and Lori Cusick, OH; Cathy Bankston and husband Steve, GA; Jeffrey Scott Cusick and wife Ashley, GA; Jason Cusick, Fl.; Richard Dean Cusick, Canada; Anthony Roberts, Kera Griggs, Taylor Griggs, Tiffani Griggs and Lillyanna Garcia, OK; Sharon Cusick, Amanda Strasser and husband Ethan, Erika Berlanga and husband Micah, Maria Mount and husband Connor, Christian Cusick, Asher Cusick and Maddilyn Cusick, TX. Other significant people in Mario’s life were Aunt Shira Sherbow, Misty Ordway, Kalissa Aguero, Megan Selby, Sunday Sallot, Angela, Eric and Felicity Davis and Matthew Wilkins. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was wanted, he was chosen, he was loved, and he will be missed by many.
